Flirc harmony 650 plex12/31/2023 ![]() I made sure I updated the SofaBaton right away, before trying to do anything else. I decided to give the X1 a try and had a pretty negative experience. I am a long-time Harmony user, and have had a Harmony Elite for years. Hi all, I wanted to share my experience with the SofaBaton X1. FLIRC was my first solution, but a 4 ESP8266 with a 1 IR receiver running Tasmota is what I settled on. Reply reply deleted I have no record of buying a Flirc adapter. One small thing though, lately i've seen that Plex already does what i did in my autohotkey first script, so that one isn't really necessary. SofaBaton X1 thoughts from a Harmony Elite owner. Harmony 650 sends IR signals so you need something that can translate the IR signals into keyboard commands - FLIRC is perfect for this. Map a couple of Windows controls to a Harmony remote (winkey, tab, winkey+tab, alt+f4) and things worked quite smoothly at the expense of one-time (or rare) setup using a kb/m to pin apps in the ways you want them (and pin new things, such as newly installed. Actual double taps with the Harmony do not register fast enough. For a front-end, IMHO the best one was Win10s fullscreen start menu with pinned tiles. IIRC, The only change I made in the FLIRC app was to make the Red button a double home key press to bring up the background app screen. Hope i answered your questions :) if you have any others, feel free to ask. On the remote screen, I only have 'OK, Back, and Home' mapped to FLIRC Shield. FLIRC will save the code as one that should be converted to that specific keystroke combination. The process of normally "teaching" the FLIRC which infra-red code does what is pretty easy, you just click the keyboard combination from FLIRC's software, and then press the remote's button to send the infra-red code. The last thing is setting up your harmony remote with the infra-red commands to send to FLIRC, which is configured to send them as keystrokes to the HTPC. if you want, i could probably share my FLIRC configuration file with you when you get your device. InputAnt/CableIn - Alt-Enter (maximize a media player such as Media Player Classic) VieraCast - Shift-Alt-F10 (i used this key sequence to tell auto hot key to start the Plex Home Theater executable) David at 12:10 AM. What this small USB device does, is receive infra-red codes (from the harmony remote) and convert them to pre-configured keyboard combinations (through the FLIRC software). Harmony Panasonic TV signal - FLIRC key combination. you can get one through ebay for instance: The strokes are sent to the PC (or your HTPC) through the FLIRC device. I updated the new Flirc to 3.8 and the "Home" button worked! I then updated the older Flirc for good measure.I hope i got what you're asking right, but the autohotkey scripts (which assign a keyboard combination to let's say start Plex) are being triggered by keyboard strokes. I noted that both Flircs were at firmware version 3.6. Buried under Advanced in the Flirc software I found the option to force a firmware update. ![]() I then put the new Flirc in the older Fire TV and it would not recognize the "Home" button! I downloaded and installed the Flirc software on my computer and looked for a firmware update. I then tried using the "problem remote" with the older Fire TV and it worked fine. I went through the same procedures but found that everything worked except the "Home" button. Once I programmed my activities and customized my buttons and screens all was good!Ī couple weeks later I purchased another Amazon Fire TV and Flirc. After some experimentation, I learned that I needed to enter a brand of "Flirc" and a model number of "Fire TV". When adding a device to the Harmony remote you need to give it a brand and then a model number. On the Harmony, program the remote as anything not being used, like a MCE/Windows Media Center remote. It might work even from the back USB port just fine). While I was very familiar with the Harmony 650 there were no instructions with the Flirc so it was an exercise in discovery to figure out how to program the remote to work with it. Get a Flirc usb dongle for the Shield and a short/cheap USB extension cable (you might not need it since IR light bounces off walls and other surfaces very well. Some time ago I purchased an Amazon Fire TV and Flirc USB primarily to use with the Playstation Vue service. I am brand new to this forum and have not read any postings of yet but wanted to share my experience using the Flirc with the Fire TV and Harmony 650.
